PhD in Health Data Science completed
I completed my PhD in Health Data Science at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto, with the thesis “Big Data analysis techniques applied to cancer screening programs”.
The work started with a simple question: how can we turn the data generated by healthcare services into useful knowledge to understand and improve patient pathways?
I brought together Public Health, Business Intelligence, Big Data and Process Mining, using colorectal cancer screening as a real-world setting. Analysing millions of events helped make healthcare processes more visible and measurable, and support decision-making.
This journey was made possible by my supervisors, Professor Carlos Martins and Professor Óscar Felgueiras, my colleagues and the screening teams, and my family. My sincere thanks to everyone who supported this work.
